A technical edit looks at the mechanics of your manuscript, such as consistency of layout, formatting, and spelling and punctuation usage (American vs. British, oxford comma, Chicago style vs. APA and so forth). These seemingly small details can be distracting for a reader; we want your reader to forget they’re reading and become immersed in your story.
I carry out this edit using Word and tracked changes, largely making global replacements (finding all occurrences of an inconsistency in your manuscript and replacing them all at once with the correct usage).
This type of edit would normally be applied before the line/copy editing stage, but can also be combined with that stage if preferred.
